Lisa Dobriskey said she was 'gutted' after a hugely disappointing Olympic 1,500m Final on Friday night, finishing 10th after targeting a medal.
In a slow-paced race, the pack were all together going into the final 400m but Dobriskey was unable to stay with the leaders as they broke and eventually crossed the line in 10th in a time of 4.13.02secs.
The race was won by Turkey's Asli Cakir Alptekin with her compatriot Gamze Bulut taking silver just 0.17 behind.
Dobriskey revealed: "Obviously I'm really disappointed.
"I was just too far back. I was too far off the pace to make up that much ground.
"It was going to be a really tough last 300 metres and I needed to be up there and on the pace, but I wasn't and I couldn't get back to them."
"I'm really gutted actually. Really disappointed."
The 28-year-old Ashford AC star overcame a femur injury and a health scare when blood clots were discovered on her lungs, just to run in the Games, and she admitted: "I'm disappointed but in the same respect I am so grateful to have been in the Olympic final.
"I did my best in the circumstances and in the end it just wasn't enough today."
She added: "I am definitely proud, but that's a bit of a consolation prize. I was hoping to get a medal so I'm really disappointed."
