A lorry driver has been released on police bail after a man was killed in a crash on the M20.

Kent Police believe the victim, from Ashford, had stopped on the hard shoulder when his car was hit by a truck.

The 41-year-old Belgian trucker, from Bruges, was arrested over the smash and taken to a police station for questioning.

He has since been released on police bail until May 29.

The crash happened on the coastbound carriageway between junctions 8 and 9, close to Charing, at around 6.45pm.

The driver of the car, a Citroen Saxo, was pronounced dead at the scene.
