Kent's sky was meant to go blood-red last night - but for much of the county it was just very cloudy.

The longest total lunar eclipse since 2000 happened in the evening up to midnight.

But, as Kent weather expert Shaun Maltby explains, the conditions weren't perfect to be out and about looking at the sky.

Shaun, who runs kent-weather.co.uk, said: "A cold front was forecast to move across the county during the afternoon after what had been a promising start to the day.

"The timing of the front sadly coincided with the lunar eclipse and spread low level cloud during late afternoon and gave a very overcast evening with some light rain.

"There was some hope eastern areas of Kent would remain mostly cloud free until 7pm to 8pm.

"But the cold front just wasn't wanting to play fair and even filled cloud in for east Kent just before the lunar eclipse began."
