Welling United battled to a brave 0-0 draw at Luton Town on Sunday to earn an FA Trophy first round replay at Park View Road on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Despite being under pressure right from the kick-off, some superb defending and a series of excellent saves from Gareth Stewart meant the Wings more than earned their second chance.
No one inside Kenilworth Road could deny that Luton had the majority of the attacking play in the first half but they were unable to create many clear cut chances.
Ten minutes before the break Welling almost took the lead against the run of play. A superb Loui Fazackerley (pictured) free-kick bounced awkwardly in the box and would have ended in the back of the net had Luton captain Mark Tyler not made an instinctive save to push the ball wide for a corner.
The second half almost started disastrously for the visitors when an Alex Lawless cross was inadvertently headed toward his own goal by Andy Sambrook but Stewart produced a magnificent save to tip the ball over the bar.
Luton striker Taiwo Atieno then spurned a number of chances to put his side in front before Stewart again came to the Wings' rescue when he kept out JJ O'Donnell's low drive to ensure that Welling lived to fight another day.
