Motorists are being warned to avoid a section of the M20 after a day of traffic problems following a diesel spillage this morning.

Drivers have experience a day of traffic misery after a lorry's fuel tank split, spilling diesel all over the London bound carriageway between junction 4 (West Malling) and junction 3 (Wrotham Heath) at around 6.50am.

Lanes were closed while the spillage was cleared up, causing "heavy congestion".

Three lanes of the motorway were then shut to allow resurfacing of a 20 metre stretch.

It is expected that one lane will reopen at around 4.30pm.

The other two lanes should reopen at around 6.30pm.
