M20 blackspot claims another life

ONE person died and another was seriously injured today in a second fatal accident on the M20 near Wrotham in less than a week.

The latest death occurred in a three-vehicle collision on the London-bound carriageway at about 10.45am.

Several people were trapped and a woman, suffering with serious injuries, was airlifted to St Mary's Hospital, Sidcup. The identity of the dead person is not yet known.

Last Sunday a man died when his van swerved off the M20 and crashed into a tree. The man, who was in his late 20s and from London, died after his white Peugeot Partner van veered across two lanes and smashed through a fence into a field near the top of Wrotham Hill. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup.

Today's collision was the fourth major motorway accident near Wrotham in less than a month. On July 18 three men were killed on the M26 near Addington and on July 23 two men were seriously injured, also on the M26.

Both accidents involved cars colliding with lorries.
