A £300,000 machine was destroyed after a blaze at Ridham Dock.

Firefighters from Sittingbourne and Sheppey were called at 10.30pm on Tuesday and spent more than two hours at Countrystyle Recycling Ltd.

A wood shredding machine, which weighs around 33 tonnes, was well alight by the time crews arrived.

Crew manager at Sittingbourne Mat Barney said it is possible the fire started either after something inside the machine failed or the wood it was shredding overheated and caught alight.

It was completely destroyed.
