Madonna gave pupils a shock when she visited a school music festival.

The Queen of Pop dropped in to Lawnfest at the New School, Sevenoaks, by helicopter on Friday.

The singer turned up as a favour to former Harrods boss Mohamed Al Fayed who helped set up the school.

His daughter, Camilla, had organised the festival at the school.

Pop star Lemar was the headline act at the event to boost the school's bursary fund.

Principle Christina Wells said: "She spent a long time here with the very surprised people we had in. It was just amazing.

"She was absolutely delightful and very personel. She had a real understanding of the work we do."

Formerly known as West Heath, the school was attended Princess Diana but closed in 1997 - the day after Diana and Dodi Fayed were killed in a car crash.

It reopened in 1998, as a pupil referral unit, after a donation from Mohamed Al Fayed, and is said to be a "living memorial" to Diana and Dodi.

According to its website, The New School has only one aim, "to rebuild young damaged lives through education".
