Alan Walker says it’s too early to know whether Maidstone will pursue their interest in Guyanan international Shawn Beveney.
The 27-year-old striker, who has scored 22 times in 41 internationals, played against Croydon Athletic last weekend.
He could figure again for the Stones in pre-season, but Walker is cautious about signing him.
He said: "I’ve known Shaun for a long time, and we asked him to come down for the game. I know he has a few clubs interested in him, and whether we do anything is another issue."
Beveney has had spells with Dulwich, Lewes, Cray Wanderers and Ashford, scoring on his debut for both Kent clubs.
Stones are without a game at the weekend, but were due at Homelands to face Ashford on Thursday with Walker expecting to field another strong squad.
They were set to again include young striker Jimmy Bottle, who played for Ashford last season.
Defender Peter Hawkins missed the game because of flu, and joined team-mates Ryan Royston and Meschach Nugent on the sidelines.
Royston is recovering after contracting swine flu, while striker Nugent is troubled by a groin problem.
Stones will train on Saturday ahead of a trip to Chatham this Tuesday (7.45pm).
