Maidstone could be reinstated into this season's FA Trophy after claims Histon fielded an ineligible player.

Histon won the first round clash on Tuesday night 3-0 but confusion surrounds on-loan West Ham youngster Jack Werndly.

The tie, which was postponed six times before finally being played at Homelands, was first due to take place on December 12.

Only those players registered by noon the previous day were able to take part, and as Werndly is on work experience from the Hammers, Histon would have also needed to give the FA a letter from West Ham stating they have permission for him to play in the competition.

Werndly, who did not make his Histon debut until late December, played 70 minutes in the game against Maidstone before being substituted.

The Stones have filed an official complain to the FA and a hearing will take place on Monday to decide whether there has been a breach of competition rules.

Histon could be kicked out of the FA Trophy, with Maidstone reinstated and also awarded the prize money of £5,000.

Stones joint-manager Lloyd Hume said: "We are 100 per cent confident that, if the facts that we have are accurate, that he signed after December 12, then we will be going through."

As a result of the hearing, Histon's scheduled second round trip to Salisbury on Tuesday night has been postponed until January 30 as the Stones could yet take their place.
