Lorry overturns on Station Road, Strood, following crash with car

A dramatic photo shows the moment passers-by rushed to help after a lorry overturned in a residential street.

The emergency services were called to Station Road in Strood at around 1.30pm to reports of a collision between a lorry and a car.

People were seen using their bare hands to clear rubble from the back of the lorry.

Three fire engines, police officers, paramedics and the air ambulance were in attendance. As of 9pm tonight, the road remains shut.

One person has been reported to have serious injuries and two other people have been taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

The HGV is currently laying on its side and its contents have fallen into the pavement.

Pictures shared with KentOnline show the moment people rushed to help as they surround the vehicle.

Station Road is closed in both directions following the accident between Frindsbury Road and Banks Road.

One witness said: "A young boy was driving a garbage truck and it fell over. The fire brigade and several police cars plus ambulances arrived on the spot within one minute."

A police spokesman said road closures are in place and motorists should avoid the area.

There is still bad traffic in the area particularly near the Medway City Estate and through the Medway Tunnel westbound.

Station Road and Banks Road are closed.
