A GRIEVING son has urged road chiefs to make safe a “killer” stretch of road where his mother was run over.

Cynthia Farley, 59, was left fighting for her life after she was struck by a motorbike in Kentish Way, Bromley. She died later in hospital.

She had caught her usual train to Bromley South, walked down the steps at the back of the station and had just stepped into the road when the bike hit her. The impact threw her 15 feet.

Her son David, 26, speaking from the family home, said: “That road’s basically a killer. There should either be a proper crossing there or something to block people from crossing at that point.”

The dead woman's husband, Jonathan, 63, of Wendover Road, Bromley, is also convinced she would still be alive if the road had been better designed.

The accident happened at about 6.20pm on Friday, February 11. He said: “My wife must have thought the road was clear, but it obviously wasn’t.”

The 21-year-old motorbike rider was from Beckenham and injured his shoulder in the accident. Both he and a passenger were taken to hospital.

Kentish Way is one of only two roads in the borough owned by Transport for London (TfL), not Bromley council.

A spokesman for the council said: “We can’t do anything officially on that road, but we will be talking to police and TfL about the accident to see if any action should be taken.”
