Man, 20, jailed after violent robbery spree

A Thanet man has been jailed after admitting six robberies in a drink and drug-fuelled night of violence.

Lee Twyman, of Linksfield Road, Westgate, was one of two men who carried out the series of late night street robberies in Herne Bay.

Judge Adele Williams told Canterbury Crown Court the pair had threatened and humiliated their victims.

A girl of 16 had a screwdriver thrust up her nose by 20-year-old Twyman.

Two schoolboys were robbed of cash and mobile phones in a park.

Twyman held a burning lighter under a man’s nose to force him to withdraw £200 from a cash machine.

Another victim suffered an asthma attack after being threatened by Twyman with a pair of scissors.

Judge Williams said she had no doubt Twyman had no regard for the welfare of the victims.

Twyman was sentenced to four and a half years. The other man, Roger Wieting, 34, from Herne Bay, admitted three robberies and was jailed for three years.

Both men had previous convictions.

Peter Alcock, representing Twyman, said his client had been affected by drink and drugs. He had shown genuine remorse and wanted to address his problems.
