A man could be left blind after being shot in the face with a catapult on his doorstep.

The 31-year-old is due to have one of his eyes removed after the attack outside his Dartford home.

The victim is undergoing treatment for his other eye, with the possibility he could lose his sight completely.

Two men knocked on the man's door in Birch Place before shooting shooting him with the catapult after confirming his name.

The ammunition hit him in the eye, causing his eyeball to split.

He was taken to Maidstone Hospital, but nothing could be done to save his sight.

Kent Police said the man is now receiving treatment for his second eye.

DC Roger Harris said: "A number of children were playing in the garden during the assault, which has left a man with severe injuries which will not only affect the rest of his life but will undoubtedly have a devastating impact on the rest of his family who were at the house during the assault."

The two culprits fled towards Hayes Road, where they were spotted getting into a white van.

The first man is described as a stocky white man in his early 20s and about 5ft 8in with dark straight short hair. He was wearing a white polo shirt and a thick dark jacket.

The second white man is described as being taller than the first, slim and tanned with mousey hair that is wavy on top, but short on sides. He was wearing a beige jacket.

It is believed the two men were seen briefly talking to a man and woman on Stone recreation ground shortly before the assault, which happened at about 8pm on Friday, September 7.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Kent Police on 101, quoting reference XY/27137/12, or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
