A man who died after falling in the River Medway at Maidstone has been formally identified today.

Keith Brook, 42, of Snodland, went missing at around 12.40pm yesterday near Sandling Road.

It's believed rescue attempts were made after he got into difficulties in the water.

But he was lost beneath the surface.

Police and teams from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the Environment Agency were called in to search for Mr Brook.

The Kent Air Ambulance also attended to provide support before a police dive team recovered the body last night.

It is the third death in the River Medway in the last two months.

Alex Chappell, 12, died when he fell from a rope swing hanging from a tree at the end of May.

Two months earlier 14-year-old Cameron Sandell died in a canoeing accident on the River Medway at Teston.

Emergency services and partner agencies are renewing their warnings after a water safety campaign was launched at the start of the week.
