A man and a 12-year-old girl suffered burns when cleaning chemicals being used for a paddling pool exploded.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said the man was using the correct cleaning chemicals for a children's pop-up paddling pool but something went wrong and caused a small blast on Friday.

Firefighters attended the scene at Staple, near Sandwich and decontaminated the 43-year-old man and the girl before they were taken to hospital.

Both suffered minor chemical burns and the man was also injured when he fell after the explosion.

Dave Clipstone, station manager of Folkestone fire station, is warning others to take care.

He said: "Make sure you follow the instructions carefully and wear proper protective equipment."
