An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a car being followed by police crashed, destroying a village memorial.
The accident happened in Teynham at 3.30am on Wednesday.
The man, from Westgate in Thanet, was arrested after being discharged from the Medway Maritime Hospital.
A 16-year-old from London, who was also in the car, remains in hospital with leg and back injuries.
The car, a Ford Focus, had been reported stolen from Faversham following a burglary.
The A2 between Station Road in Teynham and the Western Link roundabout at Faversham was closed for around 10 hours for a crash scene investigation.
Ch Insp Tony Henley said: "We want to thank the local community for the help and support they have given officers with this investigation.
"This was a serious collision, but thankfully due to the time it occurred the streets and roads were quiet and no members of the public were injured."
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been on the A2 between Faversham and Teynham around the time of the collision and who may have seen the car prior to the accident or may have witnessed it.
They would also like to hear from any Teynham residents who may have seen the incident and have not yet spoken to police.
Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
