A MAN is in police custody after two young children were allegedly held hostage at a house in the county.

The 33-year-old suspect was arrested after firearms officers swooped on an address in Kennington, Ashford, shortly before 6.30pm on Monday.

There were reports that a weapon had been seen.

The children were reunited safely with their mother and nobody was hurt.

Police say they do not believe any firearms were involved.

The man was being questioned at Ashford police station.
