Man arrested after PC is hit by car

A POLICE officer was knocked down by a car while carrying out a routine stop check on Friday night.

The incident happened on Gillingham High Street, near the Zone nightclub, at around 9.30pm.

The officer, who is in his early 30s, suffered bruising when he was struck by the beige car, but no serious injuries, and was able to return to work on Saturday.

A 22-year-old man from Chatham was arrested after the incident and is in police custody.
