Forensic police officers were called to a Sittingbourne jewellery shop following a smash and grab raid on Friday lunchtime.

It's believed a man used a crowbar to smash the front windows of D.G Battrum and Son, in High Street, just before noon.

He managed to grab some of the display items. It is not known what was taken or their value.

A plain clothes police officer, who was in the area at the time, saw the incident and gave chase.

As a result, a 30-year-old man, from Thamesmead, south London, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

He was being questioned by officers at Sittingbourne police station on Friday afternoon.
