A man from Kent has been arrested after restaurant staff called police with concerns over the welfare of the woman he was with.
The man is accused of administering a noxious substance to her.
Staff at The Haywain Beefeater, in the High Road, Fobbing, Essex, were worried after noticing the woman looked unwell as she left the premises.
The incident happened at around 8.15pm on Tuesday.
Police were quickly on the scene and found the woman unconscious and being looked after by staff members.
Paramedics were called and took her to hospital.
The 54-year-old man, believed to be known to the woman, is suspected of spiking her drink. He has since been released on police bail, while inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Hampson said: “I’d like to thank the members of staff who came to the aid of the victim. They made every effort to make sure she was okay and alert us to their concerns.
