A PERVERT from Penge who groomed young girls on the internet is facing jail.

Alan Russell, 36, lied about his age to befriend teenagers in chat rooms, asking them to pose naked on webcam for him.

Now he has admitted having almost 2,000 indecent images and videos of children – including more than 18 at the most serious levels possible

Jobless Russell, of Anerley Hill, also admitted engaging in a sexual act on webcam in the presence of a child.

He was caught when police launched an early-morning raid on his bedsit in September 2007.

Officers found him talking to a 15-year-old girl on the internet and seized his computer, mobile phone, camcorder and a box of discs.

Det Insp Jane Corrigan said: “Modern technology provides a wealth of educational and entertainment benefits for children, but with many now owning their own mobile phone or having a computer in their bedroom parents must also be aware of the potential dangers.”

Russell will be sentenced at the same court on May 30.
