A 31-year-old man arrested on Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of black teenager Christopher Alaneme in Sheerness has been bailed by police pending further enquiries.

Meanwhile, detectives have reissued an appeal for information over the case which they say was racially motivated.

Mr Alaneme, 18, was stabbed on Friday, April 21. Officers were called to a disturbance in Sheerness High Street, near to its junction with Bridge Road at about 11.55pm.

They also found a 29-year-old man who had been stabbed before Mr Alaneme. His condition has improved but he remains in hospital.

Kent Police are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have seen anything on the evening of Friday 21 April 21 and will also issuing a poster appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police want to know:

* If you witnessed any fights during the evening?

* Saw Mr Alaneme in the area that evening or witnessed the incident in which he was fatally stabbed and the second man was seriously injured?

Anyone with information, no matter how trivial it may seem, is asked to contact officers on the incident room hotline on 01622 564860.

Detectives still want to talk to Peter Connolly, aged 29, from the Commercial Way area of Peckham. Police urge anyone who knows his whereabouts to contact them.

Four men arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder been bailed.
