A Chinese man has been remanded in custody after being charged with cultivating cannabis.

It followed a raid on a house in Cuxton during which more than 800 skunk weed plants were found.

The plants are thought to have a street value of £280,000.

A complex light, heat and irrigation system, had been installed into the property.

Bing Xia, 41, of no fixed address, was arrested at the house and appeared before Medway Magistrates on Friday.

Xia has been remanded until his next court appearance on April 21.

Sergeant Tony Dyer said: “Cannabis factories of this size are very rare and we are satisfied we have taken a significant amount of drugs away from the streets of Kent.

“We would ask if any residents believe that there is illegal drug activity where they live that they contact Kent Police.

“It is with help from the community that we can get results such as this.”
