Man charged with Gillingham party attack

A Gillingham man has been charged in connection with a serious assault which left a partygoer fighting for his life. James Alexander Brown, 37, of Portland Road, was remanded in custody after he appeared before Medway Magistrates Court earlier today. He is accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A woman who was also arrested in connection with the incident has been released on police bail until Friday, April 17.

Officers were called to a flat in Sturdee Avenue, Gillingham, which is accessed via Fourth Avenue, at 3.15am on Sunday where they found a man with serious head injuries.

The area was quickly sealed off to allow forensic officers to gather evidence.

The 41-year-old victim, who has not been named, was taken to Kings College Hospital in London where he remains in a critical condition.
