A man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing incident.

Peter Barton, 39, of Railway Street, Gillingham, was due to appear before Medway Magistrates on Friday.

He was arrested in the early hours of Tueday after the injured man, who is 19 and from Chatham, alerted a passing patrol car following the incident in the Alamein Avenue and Magpie Hall Road area of Chatham.

He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, where he was treated for serious injuries. He is said to be in a stable condition.

Detectives investigating the incident are asking anyone with information or who saw two men arguing or fighting in the area of the incident between 11.30pm on Monday, December 8, and 2am the next day.

Kent police’s major crime unit is investigating the incident, along with local officers and specialists from other departments.

Det Insp Gavin Moss from the major crime team said: "If anyone has any information please contact the police as soon as possible. They can be assured that all information is treated sensitively and confidentially."
