Man died after being hit by train

A man from Maidstone has died after being hit by a train at 70mph.

British Transport Police are investigating after the 28-year-old fell in front of the train at Barming Station on Satuday afternoon.

A spokeswoman said he had been standing on the London-bound platform just before he was hit by the Southeastern service from Canterbury West to Victoria.

BTP are not treating the man’s death as suspicious and are trying to contact his next of kin, believed to live abroad.

Rail services were severely disrupted after the incident at about 12.40pm.
