Police are trying to identify the man who was killed when he was hit by a train between Dover Priory and Kearsney yesterday.

The alarm was raised at 3.30pm following a report that a man had been struck by a train on the line close to the railway bridge at Crabble Road, leading into River.

Train services were suspended between Dover Priory and Canterbury East and a replacement bus service operated for two hours.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: "Officers from British Transport Police and Kent Police attended the incident, which is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and inform his family.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."
