Coastguard and ambulance services - including the Kent Air Ambulance - were called to Louisa Bay yesterday afternoon after the stricken man was spotted by a member of the public.

Paramedics used CPR and open heart massage, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Margate Coastguard got the call at around 4.05pm.

Deputy station manager Pete Overton said: "We are not sure at the moment if it was a conscious effort to throw himself off or he fell accidentally.

"This was a young man aged in his 20s or early 30s who was found by a member of the public walking down below.

"He suffered severe head trauma."
