A Kent man is fighting for his life in hospital after being seriously injured in an accident reportedly involving a fairground ride.
The 51-year-old, from Dymchurch, is thought to have fallen from the back of a teacup ride being towed by a pick-up truck on the A35 in Burley, Hampshire.
He was found in the road with serious head injuries at about 4.15pm on Saturday, and police are now seeking witnesses who can shed light on what happened.
Officers say a red Nissan Navara truck was travelling along the A35 through Burley Manor crossroads, towing a fairground ride.
After it passed through the crossroads, the driver of another vehicle a few cars back spotted the man lying in the road.
Sergeant Adrienne Jerram said: "We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw the red Nissan Navara towing the ride as it travelled from Christchurch Quay, through Somerford and on the A35 towards Lyndhurst.
"We would like to know if anyone noticed anything unusual about the vehicle or its trailer."
The injured man remains at Southampton General Hospital where his injuries are described as life-threatening.
A 21-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, and released on bail until June 25 while inquiries continue.
