A man is in hospital after he was hit by a car at a busy junction.

Police were called last night to a bend at the bottom of Star Hill,Rochester, near the Rochester Grill kebab shop.

It is believed the 44-year-old victim, who is fromRochester, may have been trying to cross the road when he was hit by a silver Ford Fiesta.

Officers closed Star Hill, part of the main A2 toChatham, from 11.45pm until 6am today whilepoliceinvestigated.

The Fiesta remained at the scene while the driver helped police with their enquiries. No-one was arrested.

The victim was taken toMedwayMaritimeHospitalwith serious multiple injuries where he remains in a stable condition today.

Star Hill resident Afshin Louie, 44, said: “I heard a bang and when I went to the window I saw a man lying in the road with people gathering around him.

“He was unconscious for a good while. We stayed up until about 12.30am while police put the ribbon up around the scene and he was taken away in an ambulance.

“People are always crossing on that bend, but this is the first time in three years I’ve known someone to be knocked down.”

A police spokesman said: “We are still appealing for witnesses, who should call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.”
