Man held after anti-terror raids

A MAN was arrested in Chatham in connection with an investigation into suspected international terrorism, Kent Police have confirmed.

County officers worked with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorist Branch to execute a warrant at an address in the town at around 10pm on Friday.

Police said on Saturday that a search of the residential property was ongoing but no hazardous materials had been found. The location of the raid has not been disclosed.

Two other men were arrested in Paddington and Shepherd's Bush, west London, at the same time as part of the same investigation.

The three men, in their early 20s, were taken to a central London police station to be questioned by anti-terrorist detectives.

Kent Assistant Chief Constable Adrian Leppard said: "This was a successful operation where Kent Special Branch and local officers supported colleagues from the Anti-Terrorist Branch."

All three men had been arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The Metropolitan Police said the operation did not involve armed officers and the raids were not connected to the July 7 London bombings.
