A man who crashed his vintage car during a race at Brands Hatch yesterday had to be airlifted to a London hospital.
The patient, described as being in his mid-60s collided with some tyres on the circuit just after before 10.20am on Sunday.
He was trapped in the car and had to be helped free before being flown to Kings College Hospital in a conscious state.
"He was actually running at second when he crashed at high speed," said Jill Playle at Kent Air Ambulance.
"The car evidently had a mechanical fault - so he was very fortunate."
"He sustained chest and leg injuries which had the potential to be serious but not life threatening.
"So we flew him up to Kings College Hospital which is actually a trauma centre and the best place for him."
The Brands Hatch Medical team, South East Ambulance Services and Kent Fire & Rescue were all at the scene.
