A man is in hospital with serious injuries after plunging from Ashford's newly-opened M20 footbridge.

The man is believed to be in his mid 20s and the circumstances of the fall are not yet known.

Officers were called after the man fell onto the carriageway at about 3.30pm on Saturday.

The section of road was closed, causing massive queues, and it remained closed for two hours while investigations took place.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Royal London hospital.
