A young man impaled himself on railings this morning at Overcliffe in Gravesend.

The 21-year-old is thought to have slipped as he tried to climb over the railings and impaled his leg at around 9.20am.

Firefighters cut the spike away from the railings with hydraulic cutting equipment to allow the youngster to be taken to hospital for treatment.

Police and an ambulance were also called to the scene.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said the injury was minor.
