A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after being involved in an accident with a dustcart.

The man, who is in his 40s and an employee of Sevenoakes District Council, is believed to have been severely injured by the vehicle in New Ash Green, near Gravesend, on Thursday.

He was taken to Dartford's Darent Valley Hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable.

A spokesman for the district council said: "At this stage we do not know the circumstances that led to the accident.

"The Health and Safety Executive and North Kent Police are carrying out their own investigations and we will do all we can to assist them."
