Man in hotel roof drama

A MAN threatened to throw himself off the roof of the Royal Victoria and Bull Hotel in Rochester High Street in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called at about 1.30am. They spoke to the 35-year-old man until he decided to come down just before 3am.

The man, from Rochester, was arrested and held in custody while police investigate allegations that he caused criminal damage at the Expectations pub in the High Street earlier in the evening.

A fire crew from Strood was called out at 1.30am to help police. A spokesman said: "The man was on the roof of the hotel then he started moving about and coming out of windows. He was very incoherent but we were told he was drunk and was threatening to jump.

"A police negotiator talked him down. We were there to assist but we weren't needed."

The man eventually stepped out of a hotel window onto the roof of a police Land Rover.
