Man killed as car crashes into field

A 32-year-old car driver died and his passenger was seriously injured after the Peugeot 306 they were travelling in crashed into a field.

The accident happened on the A2 close to the Shepherdswell junction, near Dover, at around noon on Tuesday.

Kent Police said the dead man, who has not yet been named, lived in Thanet. The 20-year-old passenger, who comes from the same area, was flown by air ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford.

Police say no other vehicle was involved. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

The accident resulted in the coastbound carriageway being closed for more than two hours. The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held.
