The pedestrian who was killed in a collision with a lorry on the A20 at Dover on Friday morning has been named.

He was David Bell, aged 49, who lived at Lower Road, River, near Dover.

He worked within the UK Border Agency at Dover Eastern Docks and was a keen supporter of Dover Athletic football club and Newcastle United.

In a statement issued through the police, Mr Bell’s family said: "David was a loving father who will be sadly missed by his loving family. We ask that we are now left in peace to grieve".

The crash happened on the A20 in the Samphire Hoe area at around 9.10am.

The road was closed in both directions between the Courtwood interchange and the A256 York Street roundabout while investigations were carried out.

The London-bound carriageway re-opened at around 12.20pm, followed by the coastbound carriageway around an hour later.

Police say they are continuing their investigations into the accident and have asked any witnesses who they have not yet spoken to to get in contact with them 01622 798538.
