A man suffered head injuries after being knocked to the ground when he is thought to have challenged two cyclists for riding on the pavement.

Alan Sencicle, 60, was walking in Frith Road, Dover, when a row broke out with the riders.

One of them is alleged to have knocked into him and he fell to the ground.

Mr Sencicle, who lives at Danes Court, Dover, was taken to hospital with cuts to his head, a black eye and grazes to his hand.

It happened at just after 11am yesterday.

Police were called and a number of witnesses have been interviewed. They have been given descriptions of the offenders and their bikes.

The cyclists are believed to have gone the wrong way up Frith Road towards Connaught Park.

Anyone who saw the incident is urged to phone police on 101.

It comes at a time when Kent Police are holding a campaign against cyclists who ride on the pavement, through precincts or the wrong way along one-way streets.

Police issued a warning last month that cyclists who flout the regulations risk being issued with a fixed penalty notice.
