Police have launched an investigation after an elderly man plunged to his death from an upstairs window of a nursing home.

Paramedics battled to save the 86-year-old but he was pronounced dead at the scene. He had suffered a heart attack.

It happened at Wells House Nursing Home in Radnor Cliff Crescent, Folkestone, at 4.20pm on Sunday.

Both police and health and safety officials are now investigating.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "We treated a man in his 80s who had a cardiac arrest outside a home in Radnor Cliff Crescent.

"The man is reported to have fallen from an upstairs window and suffered a serious head injury.

"Clinicians tried to resuscitate the patient at the scene but were unsuccessful."

South Kent Police spokesman Jane Walker said: "Detectives attended the home and the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious."

The Health and Safety Executive confirmed it was investigating with police taking the lead. The victim has not yet been named.

A spokesman for Wells House said: "Police are investigating an incident at the nursing home. It is difficult for us to comment as this is under investigation."

Staff and management at Wells House were this week understood to be comforting and liaising with the victim’s family.
