A man has been rescued from his home at Dover this morning following a fire.

He dialled 999 to report a fire in the bedroom of his second floor flat in Maison Dieu Road, and that he was trapped on a ledge at the back of the building.

Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the building, put the fire out and then led him to safety. He has been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
