A man is in hospital with serious injuries after jumping off a bridge over the M2 at Rochester.

The incident happened just before 7pm Monday between junctions two and three.

Witnesses told police the man pulled his car over, got out of his vehicle, climbed over the barrier and jumped.

A police helicopter hovered over the scene, and coastguards and paramedics arrived at the bridge. The man, who has not been named, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

A police spokesman said: "A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries but they are not thought to be life-threatening."
