A young man has suffered a serious eye injury in an unprovoked attack after a row with a group of youths.

The 27-year-old was waiting to order his breakfast at a Longfield cafe when five boys in their late teens tried to steal his newspaper.

When he refused, they attempted to goad him into a fight outside Dolly's Diner, in Station Road.

The man ignored them and the youngsters left. However, a short time later one returned and threw a liquid in his face from a bottle.

He had a reaction to the unidentified liquid and needed hospital treatment for an eye injury.

He is still suffering from blurred vision, but it is not yet known if he has suffered permanent damage.

Police have only just released details of the attack, between 1.30pm and 1.40pm on Sunday, October 18.

One of the group was described as white, aged between 18 and 19 and of stocky build.

He had short brown, cropped hair and was wearing a black leather jacket, possibly with a hood.

Anyone with any information is asked to phone PC Amanda Edwards at North Kent Police station on 01474 366 098 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
