Manager Andy Hessenthaler insists his Gillingham team will prove to be a more resilient obstacle to Accrington Stanley on Saturday than earlier in the season.

The Gills crumbled when the sides met five months ago. A 7-4 defeat marked a low point for the club but now Hessenthaler’s team are riding on a wave of good form.

"That was a long time ago," said Gills boss Hessenthaler.

"It was one of those crazy games but we are certainly a different animal now.

"We owe them one a little bit because of the result and the performance up there. I believe we will win on Saturday."

Accrington, like Gillingham, are chasing a play-off place and neither team will want to lose any ground at this stage of the season.

Hessenthaler added: "They like to play and do pop the ball around. They still have a good chance of getting into the play-offs. They won on Tuesday and have games in hand. They will come to our place full of confidence and it’s going to be a tough one."

The Gills boss has concerns over several players after Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Southend.
