Weather reports told us to expect rain this week but no one could have predicted the showers that came down in Rochester.
Instead of raining cats and dogs, it was raining televisions and tables as one resident chose a rather unusual way to clear out his flat.
The bare-chested man was calmly throwing things out of the window of the first floor property in the High Street.
The flat was located at the far end of the High Street, near Star Hill.
People walking below had to avoid the debris as various items of furniture smashed on the pavement.
A passer-by said: “It looked as though the man was checking no one was walking below before he dropped stuff out of the window but there was stuff going everywhere. When he dropped the television, it sounded like a bomb had gone off.”
“When the police turned up he just calmly told them he would be down in a minute.”
Another witness said: “I’m not sure if he had been drinking but it was like he just lost it. There was all sorts coming out of the window; sofas, a television, furniture, DVDs. It was all over the pavement.”
The man, in his 50s, was arrested at the scene and given a fixed penalty notice for disorder. He was fined £80.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: “The man was arrested after we received several calls from members of the public who saw him throwing things out of the window.”
