A man was found dead on Shellness beach near Leysdown this morning.

His body was discovered by a member of the public at 7.45am.

It is thought he was aged between 55 and 60, but he has not yet been formally identified.

Police, paramedics and coastguards were called to the scene.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the death and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause.
