Margate carnival takes to the streets on Sunday, August 3, with promises of a colourful, boistrous and fun parade.
Organiser Cllr Mick Tomlinson said: “Each year you hope that you can bring something special to the carnival in Margate. Working with the Margate Charter Trustees, the Town Partnership, Thanet Leisure Force and Thanet District Council, I certainly believe that the people of Margate and visitors to the town will certainly enjoy a full day of entertainment, and it’s free.”
The parade leaves the Royal Esplanade at Westbrook at 3pm and follows a coastal route to Palm Bay Avenue, Cliftonville.
The procession will showcase more entries than last year, with music, visiting carnival queens and the popular Notting Hill roadshows. A New Orleans jazz band and the carnival court with Miss Margate Jessica Spain and princesses Genevieve Colston and Lucy Porter will lead the big parade.
Free entertainment will take place at the Piazza area at the harbour, with Co-Co-xpress and a Tribute to Bob Marley performing during the afternoon and early evening. Drumming workshops where you can have a go yourselves will also be part of the fun.
The carnival dance will be at the Winter Gardens from 8pm and admission will be free. A fireworks display from the harbour arm at 9.45pm will complete the day.
Cllr Tomlinson added: “Margate carnival has for many years has been one of the biggest highlights of the events calendar in Margate. This year will be no exception, so bring the family and enjoy the day.”
