Margate weekender: Ozrics on, ska off

Ozric Tentacles bring their musical magic to Margate.
Ozric Tentacles bring their musical magic to Margate.

Ska and reggae bands planned for tonight's show at Margate’s West Coast venue will not be appearing.

A spokesman for the concert said the acts had been cancelled “due to unforseen circumstances.”

But he added that a ska DJ will be playing reggae and ska favourites tonight, with admission free to music fans.

The gig was due to have celebrated leading Ska label Do The Dog, which is marking its 12th anniversary with a UK tour featuring some of the bands on their label.

But the promoters are anxious to stress that the Saturday night psychedelia special featuring Ozric Tentacles is going ahead.

It is their only gig in the south east this year and fans can look forward to thumping basslines, sound effects and keyboard and guitar work, with a sound influenced by Steve Hillage and Gong. Support band is Thanet-based Aurora.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets for Saturday’s show are £15. They can be bought from the West Coast Bar, by phone on 01843 571684 or via email at westcoastbar1@aol.co.uk
