Fancy learning how to rescue a stranded whale, dolphin or seal?
A one day training course for volunteers is being held on Sunday, July 13, at the Walpole Bay Hotel and tidal pool in Cliftonville.
The event, which is run by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, is from 10am to 5pm.
Life jackets will be provided, but participants will need to bring a wet or dry suit, dive boots or hard sole shoes (old trainers will do, although they will get very wet), a towel and change of clothing.
Thanet Coast Project education officer Naomi Biggs said: “Anyone who takes part in this course will then be added to the list of local marine mammal medics and will be contacted to help with future rescues of stranded or injured marine mammals such as seals and harbour porpoises.”
The training costs £70 per person with a subsidised rate for volunteer coastal wardens. Booking and payment in advance is essential.
Booking can be made online on the Thanet Coast Project’s website www.thanetcoast.org.uk
